DIVISIONAL DESCRIPTIONS

ALL PLAYERS SHOULD BE PLAYING AT THE LEVEL YOUR TEAM IS REGISTERED FOR TO ENSURE COMPETITIVENESS AND THE SAFETY OF ALL MEMBERS.

A DIVISION: Highest intensity in very fast, hard-hitting plays that are well planned and accurately executed by players with designated court positions  Teams usually use a 5:1 configuration with a dedicated setter and middle/power hitters.  Double blocks are essential and triple blocks are often required.  Quick hands and feet as well as diving digs are expected throughout play.  Players can hit at full power in this division.  Similar to club/university level play.

Tournament Division:  Competitive+

B DIVISION: Higher intensity in fast, hard-hitting plays that are planned and accurately executed with frequent diving digs.   Teams use dedicated setter, middle and power hitters, often in 5:1 configuration. Powerful hitting at a level of 8-9 out of 10 and double blocks are essential in this division.  This division is not suitable for inexperienced or developing players.  Similar to club/university level play but not as skilled/quick as A Division.

Tournament Division: Competitive

C DIVISION: Medium-High intensity with lots of planned and accurately executed plays.  Teams use dedicated setters and middle/power hitters, occasionally in a 5:1 configuration.  Expect hard hits and occasional dives.  All players should expect to provide controlled passes, blocking, diving digs and hitting throughout play.  Hitting power could be described as 8/ 10 with good accuracy.  This division is not suitable for inexperienced or developing players.  Similar to upper highschool/club level play.

Tournament Division:  Intermediate+

D DIVISION: Moderate Intensity with consistently planned and executed plays.  Teams often use dedicated setters with the remaining players hitting.  Positional switching is common in this division and upwards. All players should expect to provide controlled passes, some hard hits, blocks and digs to ensure competitive play.  Hitting power would consistently be scaled at 7/10 with some accuracy.  This division is not suitable for inexperienced players.  Similar to high school level play.

Tournament Division: Intermediate

E DIVISION: Lower Intensity / Recreational play, ideal for social and beginner players looking to improve their skills.  Focus is on achieving 3 touch plays to involve multiple players and is not intended for hard-hitting players (power level of 5 would be acceptable depending on the opposing player abilities).   Players typically share setting and hitting roles in rotation.  This division is suitable for learning the rules and flow of the game, development of passing, hitting and blocking skills or for those looking for casual play only.  Similar to middle school to intramural high school play.

Tournament Division: Recreational

T DIVISION:  Tuesday tends to be a mix of intermediate teams.  Depending on how many teams register, we will divide into 2 divisions to create more competitive play between teams.  The intermediate teams will use faster, harder-hitting plays that include all players and are often planned and executed. Teams usually have players in dedicated setter/middle/power positions.  Accurate passing, hitting and blocking is expected and double blocks are common. Whereas the more recreational teams tend to play at a more relaxed pace, focusing on achieving 3 touch plays to involve multiple players, with the intention of improving skills for beginner/social players.  However, due to the mixture of skill levels, you can expect a hitting power level of 7/10 and blocking is suggested for the safety of all players.
