DIVISIONAL DESCRIPTIONS

THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTIONS CAN BE USED TO ASSESS YOUR APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF PLAY FOR ALL LEAGUE AND TOURNAMENT PLAY.

A DIVISION:

Highest intensity in very fast, hard-hitting plays that are well planned and accurately executed by positional players.  Teams usually use a 5:1 configuration with a dedicated setter and middle/power hitters.  Double blocks are essential and triple blocks are often required.  Quick hands and feet as well as diving digs are expected throughout play.  Similar to university level play.

Tournament Division:  Competitive+

B DIVISION:

High intensity in fast, hard-hitting plays that are planned and accurately executed with frequent diving digs.  Teams use dedicated setter, middle and power hitters, often in 5:1 configuration. Double blocks are essential.  Similar to university level play but not as skilled/quick as A Division.

Tournament Division: Competitive

C DIVISION:

Medium-High intensity with lots of planned and usually accurately executed plays.  Teams use dedicated setters and middle/power hitters, occasionally in a 5:1 configuration.  Expect hard hits and occasional dives.  All players should expect to be blocking, diving and hitting throughout play.  Similar to upper highschool level play.

Tournament Division:  Intermediate+

D DIVISION:

Moderate Intensity with 3 touch plays that are planned and executed with some accuracy.  Teams often use dedicated setters with remaining players hitting. All players should expect to provide some hard hits, blocks and digs.  Similar to highschool level play.

Tournament Division: Intermediate

E DIVISION:

Lower Intensity / Recreational play, ideal for social and beginner players looking to improve their skills.  Focus is on achieving 3 touch plays to involve multiple players and is not intended for hard-hitting players.  Players typically share setting and hitting roles in rotation.  Blocking is suggested, but not essential.  Similar to middle to highschool play.

Tournament Division: Recreational

T DIVISION:

Tuesday tends to be a mix of recreational to intermediate teams.  Depending on how many teams register, we will divide into 2 divisions to create more competitive play between teams.

The intermediate teams will use faster, harder-hitting plays that include all players and are often planned and executed with some accuracy. Teams usually have players in dedicated setter/middle/power positions.  Blocking is strongly suggested and double blocks are common.  The more recreational teams tend to play at a more relaxed pace, focusing on achieving 3 touch plays to involve multiple players, with the intention of improving skills for beginner/social players.  Due to the mixture of skill levels, blocking is suggested for all players.

Tournament Division: Intermediate/Recreational
